Biography

Dr Ho is a senior consultant breast surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in the diagnosis and management of benign breast conditions and breast cancer. In particular, Dr Ho is dedicated to providing women and men with breast cancer personalised care, supporting them throughout their treatment journey and into survivorship.

Dr Ho has vast experience in the surgical treatment of breast cancer, always aiming to achieve optimal oncologic and aesthetic outcomes. She performs breast-preserving lumpectomy, skin- and nipple-saving mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary clearance, resection of chest wall cancer recurrence and others.  In addition, she performs various types of breast biopsy such as minimally invasive vacuum-assisted needle biopsy/excision, excision of milk ducts (microdochectomy), localisation and excision of impalpable breast changes and microcalcifications. She also treats benign conditions such as breast infection/abscess and gynaecomastia. Dr Ho provides breast screening tailored to the individual’s risk of breast cancer, with the addition of close surveillance for those with elevated risk (e.g., BRCA mutation carriers).

Dr Ho graduated from National University of Singapore in 1992 and became a fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1996. She train ed in breast surgery at the renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York, USA, from 1998 to 2000. Upon her return, she focused on breast cancer treatment and surgery, and led the Breast Service in National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) from 2006 to 2014 when she left public service.

For her exceptional commitment and passion towards patient care, Dr Ho received the NCCS C.A.R.E. Excellence Award in 2003, Excellence Service Award (Gold) in 2004, SGH Service with a Heart Award in 2004, 2005 and 2008, as well as, the prestigious SingHealth GCEO Excellence Award, Outstanding Clinician Award and the Healthcare Humanity Award in 2011. In 2012, she established the Breast Cancer Survivorship Programme in NCCS with a grant from the Ministry of Health, Singapore, to provide breast cancer survivors with holistic long-term follow-up care.

Dr Ho is extensively involved in clinical and molecular research in breast cancer, with numerous publications in international journals such as Cancer, Nature Genetics, Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, and Clinical Cancer Research. Some of her earlier research led to a Doctorate in Medicine, NUS, in 2004.  She has received many research awards including the Young Investigator’s Award, Young Surgeon’s Award and the National Medical Research Council-Lee Kong Chian Medical Research Fellowship. She was a member of SingHealth Research Foundation Grants Review Committee from 2006 to 2014.

While in public service, Dr Ho was an Adjunct Associate Professor with Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Senior Clinical Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. She was a Clinical Physician Faculty Member in the SingHealth General Surgery Residency Programme. In addition, she was the Designated Surgeon at NCCS for BreastScreen Singapore (the national breast screening programme) from 2001 to 2014, and served on the Accreditation Team for Assessment Centres, Assessor Team for Audit, and Quality Assurance and Training Sub-committee.

Dr Ho is passionate about public education on breast cancer screening, treatment and survivorship. She has organised public forums, outdoor activities and breast cancer survivorship workshops. She has delivered numerous breast cancer-related talks, contributed to articles in magazines and frequently participated in interviews on TV and radio.
